Story & character

I'm trying to bring the world inside a 5-year-old's doodles to life, one by one. 🎨

Translated

Sometimes I find it fascinating to look at drawings made by young children.

To adults, they might just look like a few circles, some wobbly lines, and unrecognizable scribbles, but if you ask a child, every drawing has a story behind it.

Who is this person? What is that person doing? And even what makes them look like this.

There's a whole world of its own inside that little piece of paper. Haha

There are also a lot of illustrations. And each one features different characters and stories.

One of them is the "government office."

Gwan-a is a character born from a coiled hose. 🌀

At first, I just thought it was a cute doodle, but the more I looked at it, the more I wanted to bring this character to life.

So, I decided to give it a try by creating some emojis based on the government office.

Unfortunately, I wasn't selected. 🥲

But actually, after doing that, I became even more curious.

If someone else were to draw this character, what would it look like?

Wouldn't it be possible to develop the character into something a little more polished while still preserving the image the child imagined?

Actually, what I want to do isn't just to redraw the picture to make it look prettier.

I want to take the stories hidden in my child’s doodles one by one, turn them into characters, define their personalities and traits, and someday even create a world where those characters live.

Of course, I don't plan on starting out on a grand scale right from the beginning.

Let's start with the government office!

I want to flesh out the current government office a bit more, experiment with different expressions and appearances, and find a design that works well with it.

And once the government office is finished, I plan to bring the other friends from my doodles out into the world, one by one.

The process of a simple doodle becoming a real character.

I think it would be fun to document that process and work on it together with other creators.

I have ideas and stories, but I need help from others to bring them to life as actual characters and develop them further.

If there are any character designers or illustrators out there, I’d love to hear your thoughts on how best to depict a government office.

We'd love to hear from anyone interested in working with us! 💚

Even though Gwan-a is still just a coiled hose, I'm really curious to see what kind of character she'll become!

I’ll document Gwan-a’s growth journey here, one step at a time. 👀
