The Worst $4 Decision I've Ever Made
I was running late for work and decided to grab a coffee from the vending machine in the lobby. Simple enough, right? I pressed the button, heard the satisfying clunk, and reached down to grab my cup — except there was no cup. Just hot coffee splashing directly onto the floor. Apparently the machine dispensed the drink before the cup dropped. I stared at it for a second, genuinely unsure what to do. I was already late. My white shirt was somehow still clean. And there was a full puddle of coffee just sitting on the lobby floor in front of like six people waiting for the elevator. I did what any reasonable adult would do: I pressed the button again, waited for the cup this time, filled it up with the second coffee, and just... walked away. Didn't say anything. Didn't clean it up. Just nodded at no one in particular and got on the elevator. I spent the entire workday convincing myself that technically, it was the machine's fault. It was not the machine's fault.
