Create AI Shorts Videos with a Free GPT I Tested and Built Myself
TranslatedCan You Even Create AI Videos with the Free Version of ChatGPT? I spent way more time than I expected just trying to answer this one question. I tried creating plugins, connecting other AI tools, and even retrying when I wasn’t satisfied with the results. To be honest, I didn’t plan on making it this complicated at first. But since I’d already started, I wanted to come up with a method that even free users could try at least once. So, I’m sharing the method I developed for creating AI Shorts, based on my own experiments and findings. I’ve written it as simply as possible so you can follow along even if you don’t know how to code. First, there’s something you should know. This guide is based on my personal experiments using the free version of ChatGPT. It might not work the same way with other AI services, and even with a free account, the available features and usage limits can vary depending on the service linked to your account. This also doesn’t mean every step is completely free and unlimited. The purpose of this post isn’t to show you how to create perfect videos for free and without limits. I wanted to share my experience of connecting AI tools to create my own workflow. My main goal is to show you that you, too, can easily give this a try! All you need is a ChatGPT account. You can use plugins even with a free account, though there may be differences in some features and usage limits. We’ll be using two tools in this guide. The first is Plugin Creator. This is a tool used to create your own plugins within ChatGPT. Simply put, a plugin is a pre-defined set of instructions that tells the AI how to perform a specific task. Normally, when creating a video, you’d have to repeatedly request a script, scene layout, voiceover, and subtitles—but this tool bundles that entire process into a single workflow. The second is vidIQ. It’s a service originally designed to help with YouTube content analysis and management, and I initially connected it for video analysis purposes. However, as I used it, I discovered its AI voice generation feature, which played a key role in this experiment.
How to Connect On the ChatGPT screen, expand the sidebar and go to the Plugins menu. Type “Plugin Creator” into the search bar to connect it, and connect vidIQ using the same method. Depending on the service, you may be prompted to log in or grant access permissions. Here’s an important point: vidIQ isn’t a service that offers unlimited access to all features for free. There may be usage or credit limits on AI voice and video features. I’ve used up a lot of credits recently, so I’m currently out of credits. I was notified that my credits will be reset in November, but the date and credit allocation may vary by user, so please be sure to check your own account. Do the free and paid versions of ChatGPT use different video production methods? I’ve created an AI voice clip, but how do I finish the video? This is exactly what I was wondering. By using the video editing and code execution environments available in the paid version of ChatGPT, you can combine images, audio, and subtitles to create an MP4 file. So, is this impossible with the free version? Not necessarily. You can check which tools are available on a free account and try using the video features of connected services. In this post, we looked at how to prepare image and video compositions using GPT and how to utilize vidIQ’s voice and video features. However, audio and video generation may be separate features, and the actual features available and credit limits vary by account. Also, keep in mind that combining images to create an MP4 file is different from generative AI creating new motion.
My Thoughts After Trying It Out The biggest advantage is that it reduces repetitive work. In the past, I had to organize the script, image prompts, voiceover, and editing order separately for each video, but by bundling them into a plugin, I don’t have to explain everything from scratch every time. One drawback was the quality of the final product. Since I wanted to focus on the production process itself, I didn’t thoroughly review each image one by one, and as a result, there were some areas in the final video that left something to be desired. Having a video generated automatically and having a visually appealing video are two different things. If you’re planning to actually upload the video, I highly recommend checking the images and scene composition first.
